The power of words

In this booklet, Hagin talks about the power of words. According to the Bible, WORDS destroy us or make us full of life, happiness, and health. Our words, the words we spoke yesterday, make life what it is today.

In Mark 11:23, Jesus said, "For verily I say unto you, that whoever shall SAY unto this mountain, Be though removed, and be though cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he SAITH shall come to pass, he shall have whatever he SAITH."

He shall have whatsoever - THE WORDS - he speaks.

Hagin mentions that when he was healing himself from seemingly incurable health problems, it wasn't enough that he believed in his heart that he was healed, he realized that he also had to voice his belief, so he was repeating,

:I believe I receive healing for my deformed heart. I believe I receive healing for the incurable blood disease. I believe I receive healing for the paralysis. I believe I receive healing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet."

And within the hour, he was standing on his feet. What he doesn't mention in this booklet, but mentioned in his other books, that after he believed, and voiced his belief, nothing happened until he realized that he also had to demonstrate his faith - he had to act on that confession that he has already been healed.

However, this booklet is focused on the power of words, and he makes many good points. If you've ever listened to the sick person or the person who is suffering from some kind of lack, you can many times find out why they are sick and why they lack what they need by listening to how they speak about themselves and their needs. If they keep repeating "I don't have it ..." they're likely not going to have it.

Proverbs 12:18 says "... the tongue of the wise is health." You're not going to have health unless you talk health.

The Bible says "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly". (Ps. 1:1) You do not want to think like the world thinks.

Verse 2 says, "And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." Do not think like the world. They think negatively.

If you want health, you should decide to talk health, and say something along the lines.

"I talk health. I believe in healing. I believe in health. "

Speak words that strengthen you.

Proverbs 18:21 says "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."

Proverbs 21:23 "Whosoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles."

life and death are in the power of the tongue....and this little book packs a wallop. I have given this book to many people who used words casually and thoughtlessly. Not that I have arrived, but this book tells us we will be held accountable for every idle word we speak on the earth because our words have so much impact on the world around us. They are equivelant to gold and we can spend them on good works or evil intent. Blessings to you on your journey of becoming Christ like...love ,k

Fingerstyle blues is a deceptively demanding genre. The engine that drives the music is the 1/4 note alternating or static bass line played with the thumb. This technique is mastered first before melody and then chords are introduced on top. Best FingerStyle book I've found..........

I have several books on learning Finger-style acoustic guitar. This is by far the best of them.
First: It begins with simple exercises to master the most challenging part of finger--style-->The independent thumb.
The author understands that this is an unnatural style for many players and that it takes time to get the thumb playing bass lines independent of the melody line being played with the fingers The exercises begin very simply, but progress steadily and do become more challenging. The author is very good about providing encouragement with each exercise as well as suggestions on how to build speed and fluidity with the piece.
Second: In Part 2 of the book, the author introduces complete finger style pieces using the steady bass thumb along with increasingly complex melody lines. Mastering these pieces really give you a feel for how finger-style is played. By the time you finish the book (which may be many, many months) you will have a good handle on playing acoustic finger style guitar and that opens up a vast range of song material.
Highly recommend the book, but realize it is a longer term commitment to building playing skills.

UPDATE: After working with this book for about six weeks, I still think it is the best of the lot. The audio files of slides and hammer-on/pull-off illustrates some very nice sounds that can be produced once you understand the technique.
The only thing I feel may be missing are fingering suggestions for some of the more challenging exercises. For example: one exercise requires a hammer-on of the 3rd to 4th fret on the 3rd string followed by a hammer on of the 3rd to 5th fret on the 2nd string. Finally, the first string is fretted at the 5th and 3rd. It is okay in quarter notes, but it is played in 8th notes. There is not a lot of time for moving fingers, so a suggestion for how to finger this for easiest playing would have been very helpful. How, a player will eventually find the best fingering, but a suggestion on some of these more challenging pieces would be very helpful.

One of the best "riffs and licks" book for fingerstyle blues

I've bought and used many fingerstyle blues books. This one is different and valuable. Do understand that this is NOT a book of complete blues pieces. There are only a few complete blues pieces in the book. Instead, it is "riffs and licks" book, and specifically in the key of E throughout. So the scope of it is very specific. Also, this is not really a beginner book, but beginners can use it. Beginners will be able to handle the easiest licks in each section, but will get frustrated by the more difficult licks, as he develops each concept. To really get the most out of this, you should already be a competent intermediate level fingerstyle blues player. That said, it is very good book that shows how specific nuances are developed. Bends, pull offs, hammer-ons, vibrato, syncopation, up the neck, triplets, on and on. In each case, he starts with a very easy lick, then expands on it to develop it into a more complex phrase. While there are some complete pieces at the end, it is mostly up to the student to build this material into their own pieces. In other words, here is the tool set, learn to play them, then use your own imagination. As a guitar teacher, I can really appreciate this style of learning, and I do it myself with my own lesson material. I am glad to see this book getting 5 stars from most readers, as this book is little bit "vulnerable" to bad reviews because it is not a song book. This is a book for the serious fingerstyle blues player who wants a more complete understanding of the craft.

My favorite book so far from Joseph

My favorite book so far from Joseph! This is obviously a very specific genre so its not for everyone but if you want to play acoustic fingerstyle blues (old school) this is for you. The exercises are great and the method is as well. It quickly goes from easy to challenging however those simple excercises compile, making the later exercises "easier". I purchased it on kindle first but like it so much I am going to order a hard copy as well (and cross my fingers for an app version).

Great read. You'll love it.

As a former history teacher, Christian, and self-described Werdnerd, this historical novel hit the jackpot for me. For a few years now, the only books I read are on Ancient Rome, Christianity, and grandiloquent or underused words. Dr. Maier weaves a fascinating story, based on historical fact, focusing on the actions of the notorious Roman emperor Nero, and the early development and spread of Christianity. He even coins an interesting word "kindunophilia" (the love of danger) that I will feature in a future volume of my Visualize Your Vocabulary: Turn Any SAT/ACT Word into a Picture and Remember It Forever (Volume 2) series. Great read. You'll love it.

The Flames of History

After reading his Pontius Pilate novel, I was hot for this one. While the same extensive research served as a solid foundation for this story and the characters involved, I personally found it a notch below P.P. Don't get me wrong, it's an exciting enough tale to be worth taking in. But I had the feeling during the first third of the book that I was reliving Graves' "Claudius the God" almost verbatim! I found the dialogue between characters sometimes not quite realistic. The author seems a little awkward with handling the romantic scenes here but never gets very graphic with the passion or violence contained herein. Its an easy read and does hold your attention. No maps, pictures, charts, or other images in the paperback version I bought. Chapters are just numbered but the book is divided into 5 sections: each with its' own title which gives you some idea of what is coming.

This novel presents a refreshing though graphic perspective of the political and cultural climate that would have been encountered by the Apostle Paul and those under rule of the Roman Empire at that time who were beginning to embrace Christianity. It reveals a sometimes shocking portrayal of just how much physical and emotional sacrifice was involved with embracing a spiritual view that ran counter to the paranoia of the emperor and those who pandered to him. I found this novel to be gripping and at the same time very helpful in understanding just what Christ followers of that era had at stake. As current day American Christians, we might think we would follow Christ no matter the odds, but placing myself in the situations portrayed in the book presented an eye opening portrayal of what being persecuted for following Christ really meant for many who preceded us.

A picture is worth a thousand words

I hate to bash this, but it's got one major shortcoming: lack of images. I'm going on February now and you'd get a page that talks about something technical like making feather sticks or how you remove bark from a tree. The description is only long enough to fit on a small calendar page, and I think adding a graphic on the page would make you probably keep the pages you pull off for later reference. Right now you read it, and if it doesn't make sense you have to look it up elsewhere.

It's nice in general, but the descriptions aren't very good and there are zero how-to images.

I was under the impression that this would be new information, my fault for not reading thoroughly. This is nice for review though and keeps you brushed up on knowledge with a little review everyday. Not what I was looking for

I purchased this book looking for more assistance with information that would make designing my own patterns easier. Sizing helps mainly - measurement basics for things like hats, sweaters, socks, etc.

What IS included:
* A sample pattern which shows how to utilize the design-your-own pages - how to use the circle graph when drawing out a pattern.

* Crochet hook size chart

* Yarn weight descriptions

* Glossary of crochet terms and abbreviations for them

* Several style of project design pages . . . circle graph, tiny grid graph paper, larger size graph paper, and finally - a note paper section.

And that is all. What would've made this book EVER SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL would be to have the sizing information included - the various measurements for baby sizes, children sizes, teen sizes, adult sizes; Even sizing info. for things like afghans, tablecloths, placemats would've been nice. The included information is very easy to find on the internet, within pattern books, or even on the free pull-off flyers at craft stores. Information for actually designing one's own patterns is not nearly as easy to find, however!

I began the return process with Amazon and I will say that they responded in an above-satisfactory manner! Thank you, Amazon!

When I first heard about this book, I thought, I can barely crochet, there is no way I can design my own pattern. This book makes it easy. With graph and note pages and a sample pattern with design notes, anyone can learn how to design their own pattern.

Great Book for Beginners or Bloggers Needing a Brush Up

I’ve been blogging since 2009, which isn’t a long time compared to others I know, but long enough for me to look at the resources available today and lament about how much time they would have saved me during my learning curves. Yep, plural.

Caimin Jones wrote an SEO book that is easy to follow and I eventually just started reading it in front of the computer so that I could put into practice everything I was learning. Not only is there a clear explanation of what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, but there are links to where we can get started.

The best part of the book, for me, was the keyword section. I was hit with a heavy dose of “ohh yeahhh” and immediately started making changes to how I was linking to other site and to pages within my own site. Caimin goes further by giving a step by step guide to using Google’s keyword tool that I toyed around with for hours – enjoying having the brush up on how to best use this free tool.

The next best part is a breakdown of several sections of Google Analytics. I’m familiar with GA and visit the site to study my stats weekly, but this section provided directions on where to go to get exactly what I need and I’m excited to be putting better use to an amazing tool.

If you’re brand new to blogging and want to build a successful blog (i.e. traffic traffic traffic) you NEED to buy this book. If you’ve been blogging for a while and haven’t spent much time on SEO, then I recommend investing (come on, it’s a steal) in this book and the time to take a new look at your blog.

This book is an extremely valuable resource for any business looking to gain traction in search and make an impact on Google. Some may say it would be for beginners but I say Good SEO books are great for everyone. I have had the pleasure of reading many SEO books in my time and I am glad I took the time to read this book. From keyword selection to content these first two steps were covered in great detail and opened some new areas for me personally. The book goes into optimization and talks about placement, density linking, authorship, sitemaps and metatags all are extremely important to a successful online campaign. Each topic was covered and explained well. The book also talks about the importance of Social Media and what you can do to ensure full social exposure. The next step talked about Building links and what directories are free and should be used by to gain more traction. Another topic that was covered was website speed, this is extremely important to websites and the details and direction given are actionable and can be implemented immediately. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is trying to better understand SEO, Google and ranking factors and what you can do to be successful with both. Easy to read, lots of links to helpful sites and a complete overview of getting traffic on Google. Ever wondered how to make a impact on Google? This book is a great place to start!
