I would not recommend this book

As a student at Baylor University (the home University of the author, John M. Davis), I would not recommend this book. I'm sure there are others, I haven't checked, but for anyone interested in learning Partial Differential Equations, this is not a book for learning. I think that was its intent, but it is honestly just a teacher's guide, and without the correct teachers, it is essentially useless. Too much space is given to the history of PDEs and not their applications and solutions. In each section, either the heat or wave equation is worked as an example and you as the reader are expected to figure out the other one. With only one or two examples per section, the book leaves you with many questions, possibly more than you came in with. There is no solutions manual, so there is no way to check your answers or your method. There are also quite a few typos. When problems are worked, steps are skipped, or asked for you to complete in the exercises. Several concepts are left out as well, including the Dirac-Delta Function, a somewhat big idea in the world of Laplace and Fourier transforms. This means that any online solution that you may find for a problem in the book (after hours of googling) will not make sense to you and not match to the "correct" solution in the back of the book. Like I said, I'm sure there are other books, so I hope teachers and professors reading this will use a different text.
